Artist's Description

The only truly wild species of horse (Equus ferus przewalskii), it was never domesticated. It is native to the steppes of Central Asia, extinct in the wild by 1966, reintroduced from a breeding program into the wild in China in 2008, currently listed as an endangered species. Photo taken at the National Zoo, Washington, DC, USA, 24 November 2010.
