Artist's Description

Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) is a native eastern North American wildflower. It truly is spring when this comes into bloom. The root of this plant has been used by the First Nations peoples for producing oranges, pinks and reds. Although plants are a natural alternative for dyestuffs, some are poisonous, so take precautions when handling all dyes.

Photographed along the Humber River Valley trail, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
