Artist's Description

“The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life.”
~William Faulkner

Composed in Photoshop with layers, embossing, filters, and textures. Each image is a separate cut from images photographed, combined to create this collage.

Texture courtesy of Cale

The images used here were photographed from a rare book found in an antique shop. Circa 1850

The works by Charles Auguste Albert Racinet (20 July 1825, Paris – 29 October 1893, Montfort-l’Amaury), French lithographer and art historian. The book is titled “L’Ornement-Polychrome”.

It was the intention of the author to create a study book of the early graphics, motifs, and art forms so that in the future artists could study from it.

I have researched and found that the images are more than 100 years old, placing them in public domain category.

Special thanks goes to Theresa, owner of Mountain Moon Emporium, Grahmsville, NY, USA for allowing me to photograph such a wonderful find, and giving permission to use the images.
