Artist's Description

While my partner works to keep us in the cash flow, I scrape the seams of the teak deck of our 36 foot ketch (two masted) 1980 Cheoy Lee sailboat. She’s been on the hard for 7 years now, two down south and five at the best marina you could find in a meadow on the west side of Lake Champlain. The exterior is done, so is the interior. The deck is the last major work.
I invented my own tool – a bent screwdriver to scrape out the final bits of polysulfide stuck to the sides of the seams between the teak planks on our deck. The teak is 1/2 inch thick. Then a layer of fiberglass, a layer of 1 inch plywood and then another layer of fiberglass.
1/2 inch thick is wonderful. We are lucky. We think that the original owner requested that thickness. Otherwise we would have gotten 5/16 of an inch. It wouldn’t have been worth keeping.
