THOUGHTS ON PAUL CEZANNE

" I am surrounded by imbeciles" he said

Those who lacked the vision
mocked his planes of colour
- intense hot orange
cooled with violet grey -

Every work a meditation.
One mans prayer
prayed at the feet
of nature’s glory

Each still life
a working witness to his love
and adoration
of the commonplace.

Could this be heaven?
– this state of oneness.
A melting into harmony
with the subject.

The eye and soul command the brush
to float, mark and express.
Yet another’s mark would render
quite a different scene.

The imbeciles were blind
to the master’s touch.
