A wise man was asked, “What is the most astonishing thing about humanity?”

The man answered: "The people!

—They tire of their childhood and yearn to become adults in a hurry. Then you find them wishing to become children once again.

—They waste their health assembling fortunes, and then end up spending their fortunes to regain their lost health.

—They worry about the future and forget the present, and find that they lived neither the present nor the future.

—They live as if they never die, then die as if they never lived."

He was then asked, “What lessons can people gain from this?”

The man said: "Let them know that they cannot make anyone love them, they can only make themselves lovable.

Let them learn not to compare themselves to others.

Let them learn and practive forgiveness and mercy.

Let them know that they can cause wounds in a handful of minutes that won’t heal for several long years.

Let them know that the richest of people is not the one who owns the most but the one who needs the least.

Let them know that there are those who love them immensely, but don’t know how to appear or how to describe how they feel.

Let them know that two people can see the same thing differently.

Let them learn, not only how to forgive others, but also how to forgive themselves."
