Artist's Description

This is a view of the sea from inside one of the abandoned slave huts at Red Slave, in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles. These tiny concrete huts used to house the slaves who worked in the salt pans. There is no room to stand up inside, and the door is only three feet high. A storm was blowing in the day I took this photo.

I like how you get the sense of desolation from the run-down look of the hut interior, juxtaposed against the calming view of the beautiful sea beyond.
