Artist's Description

Memorial Day is coming up, and in memory of my Dad who served in WW II, I dedicate this to him. My Mom and Dad married just before he went to war in 1943. He landed on Normandy Beach the morning after the US invaded that beach.(D-Day). There were bodies of fellow officers everywhere he looked. Quite an unnerving scene, one that shocked him to the core and never left his consciousness, although he rarely talked about it. He was very patriotic and was so proud of the American flag and for what it stood for.

As I was trying to find a photo of him, it was almost impossible to find one by himself. He was always photographed hugging someone, whether it be his wife of 62 years, his kids, his grandkids, or another family member. The date of his birth was 3 days prior to that of my first-born daughter so we always celebrated their birthdays together.

Dad died in his sleep, June 12, 2005. He was a wonderful, caring, loving Dad. I was so lucky to be “Daddy’s Little Girl”!
