Seven Cats In The House

My grandma lives in a big blue house. She has seven cats. She says each cat has its own special story. I suppose you want to know the names of all my grandma’s cats.

Smokey is the oldest cat. He is gray and loves to be petted. He used to belong who to a lady who moved to a different city and couldn’t take Smokey with her. So of course my grandma said Smokey could come and live with her.

Cleo comes next. She is very pretty and is what they call the Bengal breed. She looks kind of like a cream colored tiger. She sleeps in her basket in the kitchen and gets crabby sometimes. Cleo used to live in a different town in a house where the people had lots of Bengal cats.

Rak has a silly name because a man once said that is what his meow sounds like. Grandma wanted to call him Blackie because he is pure black. Rak came from across the country. He rode with grandma’s friend for a long time in the car.

Sugar is the prettiest cat. She is fluffy and cream colored. A relative’s dog found Sugar under a boat trailer in their backyard. It had been very cold for a long time. Sugar was about frozen and was very hungry. Grandma and Auntie Kelsey took good care of her and now she is happy and healthy. She lost a little bit of her ear when it got frozen.

Tek is a big, handsome, fluffy black cat. His previous owner just didn’t want to take care of Tek anymore. He likes to play and fight. He likes to hide and jump out to scare the other cats. Or he will just hide and pretend that nobody can see him.

Callie used to belong to Auntie Kelsey’s friend. They had another cat and the two cats didn’t get along with each other. Callie would love to be the only cat in the house. She loves to sleep in the basement on top of the hot water heater!

Cat number seven is Tweakers. She started out just visiting. While she was at Grandma’s
house she gave birth to five kittens! It was in Auntie Kelsey’s bedroom and were we all surprised. Then Tweakers went home and all 5 kittens went to good homes. After while, Tweakers owner had to move so she came back to live with grandma.

So that is why my grandma has seven cats. She loves all animals and has a big house where they can play and eat and sleep and be safe. Someday I will tell you about grandma’s dogs and Auntie Kelsey’s rabbit but that is another story. Now I want to tell you about the adventures that the cats have and the funny things they do.

One day it was time for all 7 cats to go to the veterinaran for their wellness checkups. Grandma and Auntie Kelsey brought all 7 cat carriers up from the basement. First Smokey was put in and grandma latched the door. Auntie Kelsey got Cleo inside and then they bot went searching for the other cats. The other 5 cats must have known that something was happening when the cat carriers came upstairs because they went and hid! Soon Auntie Kelsey found Callie, Rak, and then Tweakers. Grandma was worried about being late for the appointment so she took the 5 cats that were already in the cat carriers and drove to the veterinarians office. Auntie Kelsey would find the last two cats, Tek and Sugar, and bring them in her car.

Well, everything worked out fine. All seven cats were in perfect health and they received all their vaccines that cats need to have. The nice lady veterinarian even called them “The poster cats of health”. Boy, were the cats ever glad to get home. They all ran to their baskets and fell asleep right away. My grandma and Auntie Kelsey were ready for a nap too.

One day when grandma was working at her computer, Smokey jumped up on the desk and laid down under the lamp that was turned on. Grandma thought maybe Smokey was trying to get a suntan but I think he just liked the warm heat from the lamp. He lays under that lamp now everytime grandma uses her computer.

A fun time was when Officer Andrew stopped by with his Police dog. (Officer Andrew is grandma’s son and Auntie Kelsey’s brother.) Bullet the dog stayed outside but all the cats watched him from the big picture window. Officer Andrew had Bullet run and jump over my wagon. Then he pretended he was chasing a bad guy. Bullet also knows how to find people and children that are missing. Then finally Bullet showed how he could sit, stay, lay down, heel, and shake paws. It was time for Officer Andrew to go back on duty so Bullet said good-bye and jumped into the police car. Off they went to help keep our city safe. I think the cats enjoyed watching Bullet but they were probably glad that he didn’t come inside the house.

I’m glad my grandma has a big house. Then each cat can find it’s own special place to hide and nap. Grandma says that cats sleep about 23 hours a day and just wake up to eat, get petted, and use the litter box. By the way, grandma has 8 litter boxes in different places in her house, just so there is always a litter box handy in case a cat has to use it. The cats like to sleep in baskets with baby blankets piled in them. They don’t like to be woken up though. Cats are very independent and do things only when they want to.

I hope you have enjoyed hearing about my grandma’s cats. If you have a cat or dog, please make sure to take real good care of it. They need food, water, a warm bed, a safe home, and lots of love. Grandma says to always be kind to all animals.
