Artist's Description

This is only one of three of these Wigwam Motels left in the U.S.A. They were very common in the 50’s and 60’s at the height of the popularity of Route 66 as a way of transversing America from Los Angeles to Chicago, Illinoise. There was a special song written about it which names some of the towns it passes through.
The famous highway is now split by expressways
and scenic routes but what is left is being preserved and promoted as a valuable piece of history and a much loved alternative route across a large part of the country. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 2002 as one of the Nation’s Cultural Resources, worthy of preservation. It is situated on West Hopi Drive, Holbrook. There are a few old cars parked around the grounds from the same era.
