Spooning Country Girl

City girl for nine months
With mom, going to school
Country girl for three months
With dad, escapades all day

Trading in her Guess jeans
And her Gap cotton blouses
For a pair of blue Wranglers
And plaid button up shirts

Taking out her ponytail
Allowing the strawberry blonde
Ringlets to flow free
Against an angel kissed face

Her prize she owned, making her complete
A fitted cowgirl hat, feathers galore
Vivid aquamarine and sapphire
Hanging down her narrowed frame

Uncontrollable thoughts are seen
As she runs down the hill
Straight for the horses
Saddle up, she’s going for a ride

Bales of hay she’d toss
Over to the cows she adored
Spraying down the pigs
Naming each one of them

Feeding leftovers
To the chickens
Covering her head
Gathering eggs

Helping pick radishes
Always eating some
Carrying the watermelons
Up the hill to the house

Clean fragrances
Making her smile
While running under
The clothesline

Swimming in the early AM
Then again in the evening
Having our suits stolen
Loving to skinny dip, oh yah!

Most memorable of all
A talent unknown to her
Given two silver spoons
Looking at them bewildered

Never putting them down
Thinking this was weird
Yet so much fun to be able
To play the spoons

She became quite good
In fact, being asked to play
Her platinum upon
A country float through town

Yes, in her country attire
She gleamed along side
Her worthy spoons
Smiling proudly to all!
