Artist's Description

During the summer of 2007 my family and I traveled to Scotland. While there we had the opportunity to take a tour of Rosslin Chapel and Rosslyn Glen. Most people may be familiar with these destinations from the best-selling novel by Dan Brown, The DaVinci Code. Others may know it from its connection to the Templars and the Freemasons. Regardless of all the myths and legends surrounding this area, there is most definitely a mystical feeling and great spiritualism both in the famous chapel and in the surrounding grounds.

I took many photos of the ornate carvings both inside and out on the chapel walls. Here I have taken them and made them into my Magical Mandalas. My hope is that the combination of the inherent magic of a mandala combined with the spiritual subject matter of the original picture will bring something extra special to you the viewer.

Mandalas represent the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe from the human perspective. A mandala, especially its center can be used during meditation as an object for focusing attention. The symmetrical geometric shapes which mandalas tend to have, draw the attention of the eyes toward their center.

My photographic mandalas begin as photos of trees, plants, leaves and flowers and then are manipulated digitally into these beautiful mandala images.
