Artist's Description

Underwater in Raja Ampat Indonesia, a hunter holds his breath while he searches the reef for his prey…

These snakes are highly venomous and I had to get pretty close up to take this photo with my 60mm lens, but I wasn’t worried by him (much) as I’ve heard they little jaws have a hard time opening enough to bite you (as long as you keep your fingers out of the way). He was actually swimming across the reef searching in all the nooks & crannies for something to eat (fascinating to watch), I didn’t think I’d get a photo (it’s pointless to chase them as they are so quick & graceful and you really need to be head on for a nice image). I was hovering watching then he just turned to look at me before swimming off, up the reef and finally to the surface to get some air. Amazing creature.

Taken with Nikon D300 & 60mm macro lens.
