Artist's Description

This is one in a series showing various aircraft with their national roundel in the background.
This Fokker Dr1 Triplane replica was brought over for the Airshow from New Zealand and took part in a mass flying display on 27 February 2015 as part of the celebrations of the centenary of World War One. It is painted to represent the aircraft of the legendary World War One German ace, Manfred von Richthofen – more commonly known as The Red Baron.
The photograph was taken with a Nikon D70 camera fitted with a Sigma EX 50-500mm 1:4-6.3 APO DG HSM zoom lens.
The photo was tweaked using Gimp software – brightness/contrast tool and sharpening filter and was isolated from the original photo by select & clear and colour to alpha tools. It has also been scaled and rotated for the t-shirt purpose.
The “I See Red” titles were then added. Is also the name of a song by 1970s New Zealand band, “Split Enz”.
It was taken at the Albion Park Airshow 2017 held at Albion Park Airport located beside the Princes Highway at Albion Park, south of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. The date was 7 May 2017.
