The 2014 Point Cook Air Show was held to celebrate the centenary of military aviation in Australia which first occurred here at the Point Cook Airfield, south west of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The air show was over the weekend of 1-2 March 2014.
This photo shows two of the participating aircraft taking off in formation on the second day of the show – a Curtiss P-40F Kittyhawk in USAAF markings and a Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC) Ca19 Boomerang in Royal Australian Air Force markings. The Kittyhawk is owned by Judy Pay, is based at Tyabb, Victoria and is a rare Rolls Royce Merlin-engined variant. The Boomerang flew in from its base in South Australia.
The photo was taken with a Nikon D90 camera fitted with a Sigma EX 50-500mm 1:4-6.3 APO DG HSM zoom lens.
The photo was tweaked using Gimp software – brightness/contrast tool, sharpening and cartoon filters and curves tool.
