Artist's Description

Deep in the largest contiguous federally-designated wilderness area of the lower 48 states lies this little, easy-to-miss pond named Buck Lake. The wilderness is called the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness and comprises the heart of the Salmon-Challis National Forest and central Idaho. The recreational opportunities and stunning views it provides are numerous, as long as you are willing to give up mechanical devices and truck it in via foot or, for the less hearty, horseback. The trails are steep and narrow and the thunderstorms unforgiving, but the ponds are packed with trout, the streams are crystal-clear, the campsites and trails clear of people, and the views absolutely breathtaking. Rarely will you have more opportunity for self-reflection than deep in the wilderness at a high-altitude lake. No roads in any direction for miles and miles…
