Artist's Description

This is a view of 14th century Gadsisar Lake, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India and captured on 7.2.09. Jaisalmer is also called as “Golden City”, because of each and every monuments are built by Golden Stones. This golden stone is in abundance in this area. This is comparatively so soft so easy for carving,

Contrary to the popular belief, it is not an oasis but a water conservation tank made around 1400 A.D. by the then maharaja of Jaisalmer, Maharwal Gadsi Singh. Can you believe this structure just outside the city walls once acted as a reservoir that controlled the entire supply of water to the arid city!
