Black Ice

Your hand slipped right through mine
As though it were ice
Resisting everything firm
Propelling me into a colorless world
A world of darkness
A world of doubt
Where waves of guilt
Crashed never ending
On the shores of me
My heart was drowning
In those black waters
A soul that once shined bright
With hope and possibility
Could not hold back this cancer
But your hand slipped through mine
So I claw my way back
From this grave I dug
Day by day
Hour by hour
Minute by minute
I separate myself from you
To clear a sky of apathy
So I can feel again
Without you
Because your hand slipped through mine
As it was meant to
As it always will
You are ice
That I cannot melt
