The Sudden Fragrance of Patchouli …

Featured in SHOPFRONTS

Color is not really there. Not on a physical, atomic level – blue photons, red photons, green or gold or purple – each programmed to project a certain hue perceived by any living creature with an eye. No, colors are the brain’s interpretations to scattered wavelengths. Dogs don’t see like we do, cats don’t see like we do – so they say – and someone who believes she came from Sirius once told me this is true of extra-solar visitors as well! (Hey – I don’t make it up, I just report the news!)

Makes me wonder… is everybody’s Red the same? What if each of us were seeing something different? Who would even know! It would be not so different from the “tastes like chicken” riddle, in The Matrix.

Sometimes a whiff of Patchouli oil’ is not so different from a riff of Hendrix. For a disconcerting moment, it can send you waay back in time! And change the spectrum in your head.

(This is a multi-layered experiment with textures, light-blends and Kyoto Color, from Flaming Pear. The photo was taken in LeClaire, Iowa — on a bright sunny day. )
