=====

A genus of flowering plants in the iris family growing from corms, the crocus is native to central and southern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, the Aegean islands, and across Central Asia to western China.

====

These are Crocus nudiflorus, a very early-blooming species often seen peeking through the snow in late March or early April here in Illinois ~ if there’s any snow around, by then. Here, they’re poking up through tulips yet to bloom and remnants of the autumn leaves.
