Anderson Japanese Garden
Rockford, Illinois (USA)

John Anderson, a resident of Rockford, Illinois, became interested in Japanese culture during college. Over the years his growing fascination inspired him to start a Japanese garden in his then-swampy back yard along Spring Creek. Following a visit to Portland, Oregon he reached out to Master craftsman and designer Hiochi Kurisu, former director of the Japanese Garden there. Thanks to Hiochi’s vision, talent and decades of effort, Anderson Japanese Gardens is now a 12-acre landscape comprised of tranquil pools, meandering streams, plunging waterfalls and stunning gardened walkways interspersed with arched wooden bridges, tea-houses and pagodas. Always changing colors with the seasons, today this spectacular site is among one of North America’s finest Japanese gardens ~ well worth a visit if you find youself in Rockford, Illinois.
