Artist's Description

Anemone Nemorosa
Illinois Wildflower

Common names include wood anemone, windflower, thimbleweed, and smell fox, an allusion to the musky smell of the leaves. Originally native to Europe, these small white wildflowers blossom on the forest floor in early spring from Canada to Appalachia in the USA. They are closely related to a more familiar flower ~ the yellow wood anemone, (Anemone ranunculoides), also known as the buttercup.
