I'm a little Dutch Boy.....

It seemed so logical,
All this time…..

Having looked after them,
( as they looked after me, when they had me,
during the war,
until they have now,

…..for me
to take ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
from whence they came.

Now that I have committed to it,
I am just outside comfort-zone territory,
Not looking forward to
holding my breath for 21 hours and 16 minutes,
while winging my way towards Schiphol
and the cold!
Slightly concerned about officialdom,
in matters like this.
But, convinced that this is how it should be.
Together, returned to where they both began,
in 1917 ( two weeks and a few neighbourhoods apart, )
Where they met; in 1930,
- and then were together for 74 years,
until she left, in 2004
and he went “upstairs”,
to join her, again,
a few months ago.

Never mind!!!
Most of the aunts and uncles
Have left too.
But I still speak the language.
(What’s 53 years between friends?)
And there are virtual friends to meet up with.
One lovely, slightly confused aunt, left to visit,
And her daughter, my look-alike, very supportive, cousin,
As well as, one ever-young, dear family friend…
….AND!!, it was in the local paper :
" Local boy longs to see the Christmas Tree. "
" Writes lovingly about his city-of-birth ".

And there’s Dad’s younger sister,
( What’s 91 between friends?!!?)
So very much like him.

So good to know
that their granddaughter
will be there as well.
She likes flying!
( Gets that from her Mum.)

I picture myself,
a month from now,
somewhere near Egmond aan Zee,
( I like that name. )
on a cold winter’s day,
feeling like I’m in a movie scene, again,
connecting with how Pap (father),
was there, as a little boy,
getting his health back,
after the injection,
made him sick.

It will close
some chapters and
who knows!?

Might come back and write a book,
or edit the videos into a production,
…worthy of SBS TV,
…or community TV,
No. Probably not!!

Gouda by Candlelight,
Here I come!!

I'm a little Dutch Boy.....

Artist's Description

I’m letting it be known that I’m looking forward to attending the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree, in Gouda.
That is not the main reason why I am taking my fifth trip back to the Netherlands.
I had imagined myself, when I wrote this, riding or perhaps walking (Not possible) to the seaside, at Egmond aan Zee.
As it turned out, I was kindly taken there by the Kuyper family.
Such a good experience.
I was also so satisfied and relieved at how the scattering of the ashes turned out.
