Artist's Description

There was a “Back to Mascot” day, at Mascot Public School.
A great opportunity to have a look around the school where, between January 1969 and December 1972, I spent so much energy and had such a good time!
The “Back to Mascot” day was celebrating the opening of the new assembly hall but much of the rest of the building and surrounds were still as I left, to be transferred to Busby West Public School, to take up my then first promotions position, as what was then called Deputy Master.

At Mascot School I coached the three soccer teams; ran the school dances; had the pupils’ art displayed in Hyde Park, during the Warratah Festivals; ‘produced’ “Alice In Wonderland” (my version); while undertaking the Art-Teachers Conversion course, four nights a week and four weeks, during the holidays and needing to usually work on the art assignments in my “spare time”, as well as going for that first promotion.
It was my fifth year into teaching, after Riverstone P.S., Maude-via-Hay and Bourke Intermediate High School.
On the weekends, I entered the Mascot School soccer teams into the Protestant Churches Competition and also found time to do quite a bit of filming using the then popular super-8 mm film, which you could"stripe" (add sound tape).
It would have been good to catch up with some colleagues and pupils from those years.
Hopefully, one day there’ll be another “Back to Mascot” day.
An interesting day!!
