Windsor is a picturesque tourist spot on the river Thames, and lends itself well to artists impressions. Queensland artist Al Benge makes the following comments.
“The thing I liked about Windsor was its compact size, and the number of historic buildings, just waiting to be sketched. With Her Majesty just around the corner, I had a ‘right royal time’ finding suitable subjects, but confined myself on this occasion to just sketching the street scenes and the quaint old buildings. Perhaps one day – if I ever get rich and famous – maybe HR might invite me (as she did Rolf Harris) to do a sketch of her, but this is probably not all that likely in my case. But it was fun in this line drawing (completed on the spot) to record details of the bustling thoroughfares of Windsor. The good point about carrying a sketchbook on holiday is that it makes you see detail that you might otherwise miss – and you have a good souvenir to look back upon later !
