parade of masks

When the shadows of my life flicker more gently,
I see the horizon more clearly.
I tell you all of what is nothing
and nothing of what is everything
of what is crying within me
feeling is difficult, to a man holding quiet all his shame..
there are too many shadows,
too many memories of broken dreams
and with every rising sun or evening set
Heads held high but hearts beat low

left to drown in the perilous merky waters
the bottomless pools of the subconscience mind
A place so fragile,
that one’s own self destruction becomes a saving grace
with each drop, the poison conceals yesterdays wounds

I want to scream and let the anger go
I want to bleed, so the world might now all that I hold inside..
But silent cries fall upon deft ears
No one has time for another mans tears…

A persons eyes may seem content,
the blessed child of their mothers good intent
But you see not their inner soul,
Not the pain that rests behind those lids as they close their weary eyes
Begging with every breath for you to wonder why they want to run and hide

although you look, it’s not to see
A persons truth goes past your steadfast will to decieve
and with these facts placed at your feet with ease..
Tomorrow morning you’ll still sit idley by
counting withered leaves as they fall from your front yard trees
It matters not..
who am I?
Well I am every man you meet
Look at me!

My surface may seem smooth but my surface is a mask
Take away the mask and all I am is what you never see.
And so begins the parade of masks…and my life becomes a front.
Look at me…
