Artist's Description

This very LARGE yellow jacket nest was in my herb bed and has actually been there a few years. I knew it was huge but never made any effort to “handle” it. But, last night a nice fat bear decided to dig the nest out and he/she dug out and ate (?) about 1/3 of this nest. With the large gapeing hole the remaining bees were working doubletime to repair and salvage their home. I got as close as I dared (they were everywhere in the air too) and got this shot looking down into where the bear dug it out. I’m hoping they will come back tonight and finish what they started cuz these little bees are not too happy at the moment. :)

Canon EOS 450D
Canon 70-300mm DO IS USM lens

PS: The bear came back and finished the nest out for me a day later. No more bees, no more nest.
