Allons! whoever you are, come travel with me!
~ Walt Whitman, “song of the open road”

It is my wanderlust for travel that attracts me to photography. Not only the lure of faraway lands, but also for those ever-fresh eyes of the traveler that allows them to see even their home town through the fresh filter of one who has never seen it before. Or to see a person, a moment, a movement, a stillness, a thing, a shape, an event, an ordinariness, as something instantly created for capturing, never to be repeated in the same way again.

My camera is my travel companion. My filter is my perspective on life. My destinations are neighborhoods, beaches, parks, public spaces, here in Cape Town, and further away. My lighting and conditions are whatever I find when I get there. I shoot what I find, looking for beauty and art in the chaos or the ordinary, respectfully telling stories of people and places and moments in time.

When I’m not photographing, I’m an Executive Coach to high impact individuals – I spend quality time listening to other people. (Learn more at www.motivcoach.com).
I have come to see photography as another expression of quality listening. Seeing and listening are intimately connected…..photography is listening with the eyes.

My form of photographic expression is two-fold; there’s the capture, and then there’s the edit. I can often lose myself for hours in the (largely meditative) experience of editing a photograph – taking it from what I feel is a nice picture, to what I feel is a funky work of art. My work is evolving from week to week, taking on a new quality. I watch with interest.

I love feedback (a throw-back to the coaching profession!) and welcome any comments.
