Artist's Description

This is an inedible, common fungus that grows mainly on fallen trees and other dead wood, especially ash. Although it is not good to eat, it is a good fire-starter when thoroughly dry, and it is hard to extinguish it once it’s burning. They form in the spring and last well into winter.
