An historic building, Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station is still a bustling hub for trains, and it sports some famous statuary. This terra-cotta plaque “Spirit of Transportation” by Karl Bitter (1867–1915) is located on the west wall of the waiting area of 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was moved from it’s original home in Broad Street Station in 1933.
The railroad station scene in the movie, WITNESS, was filmed here.
I couldn’t capture the power of this relief sculpture with my simple, little camera, so I combined a picture of the whole with three closer ups of portions of the relief.
