Artist's Description

I got help for identification on this one – Hygrocybe conica – it sure is a beauty! At first I thought it might be a Hygrocybe, but the stem seemed the wrong color and the cap didn’t have the viscous appearance. Even after the rain was over, the cap appeared wet. It’s a relatively small mushroom (approx.1 — 2 inches tall) growing in a hardwood forest in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

This photo was taken August 18, 2011. There were many scattered throughout the area after quite a few days of rain.
