Artist's Description

The bright red male cardinal is often seen and admired. I love the female even more. Her color are a lovely olive green and buff with hints of red, and she blends in with her surroundings better; this we’d expect for safety while sitting on a nest. They are at the feeding table in the early morning and as the sun goes down, happily chirping with the crisp,“chick, chick’” call.

This picture was taken on January 25, 2014, in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA, with a Tamron 150-600 mm lens (through the kitchen window). The dried hydrangeas and evergreens that once were our Christmas trees give them a place to rest and feel safe.

Dedicated to the female of the species:>)
