Serene Satisfaction

He meticulously planned as if he had the slightest ability to change what it was that was in store for him. In the same way that a convict chooses which prison he is condemned to. Wake up at seven to shower and shave, Starbucks and the paper, a self-help recording on the way to work. If only he could work hard enough. Hard enough for that big raise, enough to grasp that big promotion. Illusions of gaining that one universally coveted skill constantly screamed in his head. Be in the right place at the right time or get in early on that new, great, life changing idea, then things would be better. Things would be different. These were the thoughts that clouded his mind, the thoughts that acted as an impenetrable wall between him and the happiness that he knew so well he deserved.

Things are different for him now. Worries about the short-lived tribulations of his earlier days no longer breathe down his neck. He is one with something bigger now, something that enlightens him about the bigger perspective on life. Nature. He is a piece of the single being that is the sea, feeling truly alive for the first time in years. The memories of what caused all the tensions of his earlier days are fading away. It’s no longer meetings, memos, and marketing teams, but silence, salty air, and serene satisfaction. Wealth, fame and possessions have been replaced by calmness, peace, and relaxation. As he breathes in the pleasant yet adventurous sea air it fills his body with a higher understanding of life. A silent passion now consumes him, a passion for something better. He doesn’t know exactly what it is but he feels it involves more than himself. This will be his new life, the life that he has unconsciously always dreamed of having.

If only this moment could last forever. Will this born again man be able to hold onto what he feels right now, the new principles that will define the rest of his life? These are the thoughts that slowly creep into his mind. He can’t allow himself to fall back on his older, and as he sees so clearly now, unwise ways. No, he won’t allow it. He will fight to hold onto these thoughts and feelings as if he were fighting for life itself. He won’t return to the endless yearning of his earlier days. No, he will stay with this right here. He will stay IN THE MOMENT.
