Driving West - Autumn Sunsets

Driving West -

In the autumn of my journey,
Drawing closer to my destination,
The car racing down roads, too fast,
My mind falls back to contemplation
As my eyes meet a golden horizon.

Burnt orange light fills my eyes,
As the roads and cars melt away
And all that exists is me and what lays in the West,
Time stands still on the end of a day,
Everything stops except me and what lays in front.

Orange streaks by my side as we turn down a country lane,
But they are merely an imitation of the light ahead.
We speed toward it but it gets neither closer nor further away,
Always moving, but always dead,
Neither Spring nor Summer holds such a beauty.

And my heart continues to shine with golden glory
Long after the darkness covers all.
And when the winter calls,
My heart shines on grand and tall
With the memory of the autumn sunsets.
