Artist's Description

I always smile when I see this shot thinking it was really kind and enlightened of the town of North Topsail Beach to build a wheelchair ramp for the public beach access. But I can’t recall ever seeing an all-terrain wheelchair, so what happens when they run out of ramp? I’ve driven on the beach up at the northern end of the island (where 4WD vehicles are permitted) and even with a 4-wheel drive pickup I worried about getting stuck in the very-deep-very-soft sand during the summer. (During the winter months the higher tides and lack of traffic make driving on the sand almost as easy as driving on pavement.) So I can’t imagine a wheelchair getting very far. Then again, the creativity of the determined never fails to amaze me.
