Five minutes of cafe talk.

There’s a girl with brown hair sitting in front of me; the shadow from the nearby pillar a light weight upon her back. Diligently scribbling away, neon yellow highlights on white paper, and two Law books on laminated table, she toils. Blazing hot, an anomaly during the winter, the sun shines.

Life is a cup of well-made cappucino. There’s the occasional caffeine-infused notes that hits a high, and there’s that sense of bitterness before you strategically drop a satchet-worth of sugar into the thick foamy top. Your effort does not pay off immediately – the sugar granules opt to stay balanced on the surface, and with a shove of your spoon, it penetrates the thick white surface. Give it a little stir, and there you go – rewarding subtle sweetness.

There’s an empty table beside me; the leather-cushioned seats bent from the weight of their previous occupants. There is a faint trace of French accent in the air – three students, European origin, were debating intently ten minutes ago. They have left, but a copy of the Herald Sun begged to follow – They Lied! – no they really did, both Didak and Shaw according to today’s headlines, and the students who brought the paper in.

Oh she has finished her cup of cappucino, and now the dirty glass whispers to the newspaper, I feel for you too.

Five minutes of cafe talk.
