Like Icarus

With ruddy hands we held on zealously to a dream
Our salted tears, sweat and blood
Flowed and formed mud beneath our feet
And only by hitting rock bottom we knew
The divine secret power of clay!
From the tear-soaked soil beneath our feet
We began our work of shaping the world around us
Whilst staring at the Sun we dared to dream
Of tasting Heaven’s divine fire
Like Icarus we sought to fly and burn like a star
But as we came crashing back down
To the Earth’s wet, muddy womb
We knew that we were not meant to fly
But only to live, love, dream and die
