I visited Venice briefly in 2006 as part of the European tour during the World Cup soccer fever; part of that whirlwind tour was also our honeymoon, which makes it all the more memorable. Touristy it may be, Venice will never fail to impart a sense of timelessness and romance. This is a close-up shot of the famous Campanile di San Marco. The belfry is topped by a cube, alternate faces of which show walking lions and the female representation of Venice. The tower is capped by a pyramidal spire, at the top of which sits a golden weathervane in the form of the archangel Gabriel.* Be sure to check out the complete Merchant of Venice series.
