The Dark

I try to find the warmth
but all I feel is the cold.

The dark.

I did not invite it in
but somewhere it has found a tear in my universe.
A way to slither in
unnoticed.
Uninvited.
The dark pushes in.
Shoving aside the light.
Stepping on everything in its path.

The dark does not need sustenance.
It feeds upon itself.
Expanding
taking over.
Stealing every bit of joy.

I could linger here
in the dark.
It’s enticing
convincing.

But today
is not a day for dark.
Today there must be light.

I know of only one way to quickly chase the dark away.
The bottle.
Just one drink.
A fair trade
to banish the dark.
Chase it back
through the crevice
it slithered through.
Until I can find
a way to repair the tear.

The darkness flees
the warmth seeps in.
