Together or Alone

You cannot be real
You have been arranged by God
Plucked from the crowds of nothing
and placed into my heart

Throughout a life of hurts
Years of rejection
You begin to dream
And you’re happy to believe that your thoughts are just that -
Pieces of lies to keep you alive
To hold onto a smile

Settling for second, third or tenth best
Ignoring the possibility that fate could step in

You take my hand
We kiss for the first time
but just as if we’ve been there before
Everything is calm and true
You are you and I am me
Yet I feel incomplete

Your touch is absent as I wake
It’s so unnatural though I’ve lived alone
Without you all of my life
A short life, that’s all we’re given
To be able to find that part of you that was always there,
but not around

To share dreams, laughter, hope – so easily
To express what’s happening
Like a prayer that’s answered, you are
It’s not right to be here
While you are there
But I feel content ‘cause I believe you’ll return to rescue me

To share in everything
And nothing with me

I believe in you, want you to grasp each and every dream
and believe in yourself
A pure strength
is what we are
