My Side

You can’t have it all
The peace of the sand
trickling through your fingers
The sun warming your bare flesh
In all the times you need that calm
If you have this
You may not explore the rocky seas
Nor wander through the wilderness
You can’t have it all
Selfish, black heart

If you need both of us
The peace and adventure
The sleep and the untamed dream
You are asking too much
Watch out for yourself
Danger of losing love and life

Am I so heartless, so blind to the truth?
Do I lie to myself as I’m buried here
In this cave of indecision
No comfort, no mystery
Loneliness deserved by this infested heart?

Take it all, eat away at my flesh!
Flesh and spirit, both diminished
At one flick of your wrist
You must change, you must change
Lying, cheating, soulless, bare
That’s you
Nothing for you
And you must take My Side

My Side
