Christina Taylor Green

You were born Christina Taylor Green,
on 9/11
when stained windows
of this nation shattered
sun disappeared
with grey smoke
of ignited airliners,

doctors pulled you
from a warm womb
to a red sky
of pain,
twin giants crashed
into piles of ashes

so did our hearts,
America sobbed
political parties
vowed to unite
we choked prayers
to heaven
we all held hands
from the east coast
to west,
then struggled
against the enemy
of ourselves
to find stronger

for a moment we paused

little was known
of the children born
that day,
you sprouted
from life,
your pedals
too quickly,

i applauded
your zest,
to serve others
to step out
on a wire,

even when you flew
away from us,

You didn’t cry
maybe i didn’t
a greater purpose
your life
a rare silhoutte
to teach optimism
only a child
you understood
emblazoned an
i pray the contribution
your 9 years made,
is a lesson to politicians
serving others
isn’t about pointing fingers
or marking human targets
your life was sacrificed
on the pages of political
your soul illuminated
to greet the Lord
with the smile you freely
gave to others.
