Sometimes like priceless Joseph

Sometimes like priceless Joseph
we walk through living
our days in just rusty
shackles
bearing heavy weights
and thoughtless actions
we carry out
against each other
To expose Jesus
more than a Saviour
but Ageless Healer
healing the world
when it was covered
with nothing
when the earth
was a pin hole
in the formless shape
of the whole blanket
of eternity
and He spoke light
into existence
and made restoration
of the oxygen
by first ripping out
what He did not
want
and what He could
never use
and like the earth
we are placed
at the Feet of Mercy
and Truth
given to the sober
judgment of God
to make restoration
of our flesh
by bleeding the darkness
out to let
in the light
by popping
our self-breathed
balloons
by letting loose
our pride
all over His Glorious
countrysides
He sometimes
lets us become
scattered seed
by wind
scattering us so far
we aren’t able to find
ourselves again
not naturally
but by sheer
and wonderous
miracle
He sews us back
into ourselves
as He sewed
the first sacrifices
on the Mother and Father
of Humanity
stripping us bare
of our selfish trappings
He cuts out the violent
cancers inside us
the malignancies
that threaten
our very lives
and under a Surgeon’s
Knife
one never knows
what is happening
the gifted journey
of the hands
put there to restore
us to a greater and
more voluptuous
existence
He heals us
to speak against the cancer
not to live under it’s terror
but to praise the Surgeon
and to praise Him
for His skill
and to praise Him
for the cure
and the treatment
that resurrected
us in this life
To be Holy
rejecting everything
God cannot look upon
we are His Hands
to twist and pull
out whatever
the Father
has not planted
and the things
He has not planted
firmly in His soil
will not grow
He called us to take
a significant form
whose beauty
is able to stupefy
even the dullest
of senses
and the many weeds
who thanklessly
take their shade
and rest beneath
and comfort
strangling weeds
even when you must
endure alone
the scorching sun
above
The Lord never intended
His flowers
to suck in their stripes
but to be momentary
expressions of earthly
praise
so purposed by
the Potter
to shelter
the whole of thankless
creation

Artist's Description

“So, it came to pass, when Joseph had come to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his tunic, the tunic of many colours that was on him.
Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it.
And they sat down to eat a meal. Then they lifted their eyes and looked, and there was a company of Ishamelites, coming from the Gilead with their camels, bearing spices, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry them down to Egypt.
So Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is there if we kill our brother and conceal his blood?
“Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother and our flesh.” And his brothers listened.
Then Midianite traders passed by; so the brothers pulled Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt.
(Genesis 37:23-28)
