The deception of the devil:The Walking Dead

Abide in Me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me."
(John 15:4)

If we continue to cling to the things of this world, we will never get to a deeper intimacy with the Lord Jesus. We will never experience His power. Nor will we be useful for His kingdom. What things can get in the way of our walk, of our daily and hourly walk with Christ. One thing, I know that kept me from experiencing a richer relationship with my Lord was watching “The Walking Dead.” Yes, people will say, what is wrong with that? It will not affect your Salvation, but watching such things will affect your effectiveness for the Kingdom. It will render you powerless. What did David write.
“I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know know wickedness.” (Psalm 101:3-4)

Some will argue it is just entertainment, but violent entertainment. Christians should have no desire to watch such graphic violence. I used to tell myself, that it was all about the characters. But you cannot separate the characters from the violent world they live in. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, “If there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

The show has such graphic images, that stay in the soul. You may not believe that it stays inside, to defile you, but whatever a man puts into his heart, will manifest itself in some way. You are sacrificing your intimacy with God. You are saved, but you are putting wax in your ears, when you do things that do not please the Holy Spirit. It becomes harder to hear the still small silent voice of God.

It isn’t only a television show, it magnifies, death, and murder, and barbarism on such savage levels. I have watched some very disturbing things on the Walking Dead. This cannot be good for the soul. Think about your souls, think about what you are feeding your hearts. It is food, but it is damaging food, food that does not benefit you, food that is corrupting your spiritual health.

Surround yourself, feast your eyes, on holy things, on things that will build your intimacy with Christ.

The Walking Dead is a dead end. It is a deception used to lure people away from God, a snare for the believer to leave him weak. Don’t be fooled. We are in a battle, with principalities and powers.

“For we do not battle against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
(Ephesians 6:12)
