Overwhelming Addiction

You were not there when I needed you most
You were to busy partying, playing the host
Popularity, Pills, and Booze
Acting like you had nothing to lose
Passing out and partying all night
Always ready to start a fight
You forgot you had a little one
To busy, having so much fun
Playing with mommy was forgotten
How could you have been so rotten
Then you decided to get clean
Sitting on a thrown like a queen
I thought your behavior would change
It really didn’t, how strange
Still controlling and mean
I just wanted to be a teen
AA was a popularity test
Who could gossip more than the rest
Endless men courting you around
You were never to be found
You preach to others
Acting as their mothers
You took them all in
Saving them from their own sin
You forgot about me
Could you not see
I was their all the while
Just praying you would make me smile
Now. you can have them all
They can take the fall
I can no longer try
I am done asking why
The serenity prayer you liked to preach
The meaning just out of your reach
It touched my heart
If you could have just got it from the start
Maybe there would have been a place for me
In your make believe family tree
