These two snowy egret nestling chicks couldn’t get their eyes off Mama the minute she landed in the nest. They pleaded for food constantly and vied with each other for her undivided attention. I also noticed that the chicks in other nests sometimes engaged in really combative behavior, pecking each other and occasionally pushing a sibling out of the nest. It’s the way of nature, survival of the fittest. I took this picture at the rookery in Iberia Parish.
