Carolina wrens are among my favorite songbirds; they are diminutive in size but certainly not in song. They sing loudly and lustily. They have a jaunty pose and fast, jerky movements. Even the expressions on their faces reveal “attitude!” Saucy and sassy, they brighten my day every time I see them. I photographed this little wren during the five second internal it so graciously gave me.
Wrens love to make nests in hanging baskets. A lovely little igloo looking structure which is covered with tiny mosses, it is cleverly concealed and amazingly resistant to the watering can! Many a time, I’ve watered my ferns, only to have a frenzied wren fly out within inches of my face.
I’m not aware of any color differences between males and females which look alike to me. I hope you like my picture of my little friend.
