Artist's Description

The house finches are with us all year long. Their cousins, the pine siskins, the goldfinches, and the purple finches, come to my feeders here in the Deep South only during the winter months. I’ve seen lots of goldfinches and siskins this winter but no purple finches yet. The male house finch and the male purple finch are similar; the house finch has brown streaks on its breast whereas the purple finch does not. It’s kind of hard to differentiate between all these birds, so I constantly check the field guides to identify my visitors. It’s a great joy in my life; I never tire of watching the birds, feeding them, and photographing them. Hope I’m not boring people with too many bird shots! It’s my weakness!
