Artist's Description

Teensy spends his days as a week-old cardinal hatchling doing the things baby birds do. He eats—plenty; he digests his food and with Dad’s help who does diaper duty, he evacuates the excess; he preens his growing feathers which look like little sticks with a bit of fuzz on them; he sleeps; he stretches; and if he thinks anything harmful is coming his way, he scrunches deep down inside the nest in an attempt to hide. He snaps at bugs and is beginning to flap his developing wings. It’s a joy to watch, and I must say, time flies when I’m observing. I thank God for blessing me with the chance to see this endearing drama unfolding before my eyes.

Here is a photo of Teensy and his missing sibling one day after they hatched; notice one of the eggs did not hatch.
