Artist's Description

There aren’t many trees in Iceland anymore. At the time of settlement it was covered with trees and vegetation, but unchecked sheep grazing and logging for fuel and building materials over the years have changed all that. Now there are just a few small wooded areas on the island.

The Icelanders have a quirky sense of humour. One of their sayings is, “If you get lost in the forest, just stand up”. That’s in reference to the smaller, hardier versions of common tree varieties and also to the concerted efforts at re-forestation currently being undertaken.

Image taken with Canon 5DMkII with Canon 24-105mm lens. Processed in Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop.
